"It's easy to be pleasant, when life flows like a song but, the man worthwhile, is the one who will smile, when everything goes dead wrong"

7/8/10 - Spencer Crummett was hit almost head on riding his home built XS 650 (pictured above) home for lunch. The bastard that hit him didn't even look, he cut across two lanes at a 45 degree to the northbound road he wanted to drive down. Spencer's skid mark was about 12 feet long and a straight line. no time to do anything. He's laid up in the hospital with two broken femurs (one clean, one shattered), lots of broken and missing teeth, lots of lacerations on the legs closed up by staples, and a broken neck. A shard of vertebrae almost completely severed his spinal cord. At this point he is now paralyzed from the chest down with little movement in his hands and arms. We are now raising money to help Spencer and his Family renovate their home and their lives. You can go into any US Bank and say it's for the Spencer Crummett Donation Fund.

fuel

mcdermitt, nv . this used to be a gas station but now they just have horse fuel. too bad no customers when i went through this time.

d'ya think...

in 60 or 70 years that people will get all excited about kia rios and razor scooters the way they are now about old vehicles and machinery from the "golden age," i don't. take this old fordson tractor, its not cool because its old, it helps but what makes this old machinery special is the fact that it has withstood the test of time because it was built right. in todays world of disposable everything things like this stand out because they are permanant, built with an eye single to the durability and quality that "made in America" should mean and profit margins be damned.

all business/no bullshit, now there are cars that parallel park themselves and we hear words like "progressive" and "forward thinking" but are we really better off ? you can start your car from bed with a remote control, drive it to walmart in creature comfortablity, it'll park itself while you text an update to facebook via your blackberry, at least you only have to walk as far as the front door before you jump into the shop-o-matic rascal powerchair to do your shopping. what a workout. and people wonder how america became the fattest country in the world. how many of our so-called steps forward are really just a step lazy. i'm ranting but its my blog and i'll do what i want with it although now i feel guilty for not getting on the roof and just yelling my opinions... step-lazy, i'm as guilty as anyone.

sunday ride

It rained and snowed all day on saturday even though its late May, so sunday i rode up shaw mountain in the afternoon. I got some Idaho on my bike.

The supermoto/street tire did surprisingly well in the mud, the knobby on the front was reliable as ever.

the road, most of it doesn't look this good.

view from the top looking east towards robie creek.

humility,

never really been a strong point for me, i respect people who have it but i'm not one of them, usually. life is a wheel and just when you think you're pretty rad inevitably life will straighten you out, me anyway. i make some little parts and pieces for my projects and of course i'm proud of em', then i run across stuff like this built by Andreas Georgeade, he's a lifetime motorcycle rider/ racer/ builder from South Africa. he's built bikes with ferrari engines, raced isle of mann and the european 500cc GP and all over the world.

the honda cbx is an evil machine from the factory, but Andreas needed more so with no CAD equipment and rarely even a sketch (often after the work is done just to explain how it works) he mated two cbxs together to make this beautiful v12. the work that he's put into this is engine is unbelievable, whittle the rod journals down to fit two rods on each, weld two blocks together to acomadate the two cylinder banks on the same bottom end. the task of working out the timing of the ignition and the cams (4) would be enough to split a vessel in my brain.

oh yeah, the bike is amazing too.

Andreas Georgeade - hero.

sexy.

and then...

battery box in

1:00 a.m. is burn out time, the front brake holds really good, the foot clutch is easier than i thought, the motor that i literally found in the dirt runs like a champ, now if it would just stop raining things would be perfect.

??

this can't be good

this is the scene in the alley behind the print shop some friends run, so it seems like a bad idea to leave your bike in a sketchy alley while you go out of town for a weekend. you just never know when someone is gonna come by and turn your 500 ninja topsy-turvey. sucks. he should probably just give me this bike now so it can turn into a streetfighter.
